Vista

The project

Foresighted, a company specialized in the ophthalmology medical sector, commissioned us to develop Vista, an innovative mobile application dedicated to amblyopia therapy, commonly known as lazy eye. The goal was to create a digital tool that would transform traditional therapeutic exercises into a playful and motivating experience for children and young people, facilitating adherence to the rehabilitation process.

The main challenge was to make accessible and engaging a therapeutic process that, in its traditional form, often proves boring and difficult to follow for younger patients. It was essential to integrate objective monitoring tools into the platform to allow doctors and parents to track progress over time.

The challenge

Developing a medical application for vision rehabilitation required specific skills from both a technological and functional perspective. We had to ensure:

• An intuitive and attractive interface for a very young audience
• Correct implementation of red and blue chromatic filters for differentiated visual stimulation
• Integration of clinically validated diagnostic tests (Visus and contrast tests)
• A reliable and secure progress tracking system
• Optimal performance on iOS and Android devices of different generations

Gamification had to be designed to maintain high motivation without compromising the therapeutic effectiveness of the exercises.

The solution

We developed Vista as a native mobile app for iOS and Android, structuring the user experience around a series of visually appealing and functionally effective therapeutic games.

The main features implemented include:

• Authentication system for secure management of patient profiles
• Personalized configuration with settings to control red and blue filters based on medical prescriptions
• Library of therapeutic games designed to specifically stimulate the lazy eye through targeted exercises
• Display modes with chromatic filters in red and blue for differentiated eye stimulation
• Integrated Visus test to measure visual acuity directly in the app
• Contrast test to assess contrast sensitivity and monitor improvements
• Monitoring dashboard to visualize progress over time

Each game was developed following precise ophthalmological criteria, ensuring that the playful aspect did not compromise rehabilitation effectiveness.

Technologies

To ensure optimal performance and complete mobile market coverage, we used:

• React Native as the main framework for user interface development
• Expo to accelerate the development process and simplify multiplatform build management
• PHP for the backend and server-side application logic management
• MySQL for secure storage of patient data and test results

This technological architecture allowed us to create a high-performing, scalable, and easily maintainable application over time.

Results

The launch of Vista produced significant results for Foresighted. The app recorded a 40% increase in bookings and subscriptions, demonstrating how the digital and playful approach to vision therapy met the favor of families and industry professionals.

The ease of use and effectiveness of the exercises made Vista a valuable tool in the amblyopia rehabilitation process, transforming a task often perceived as boring into an engaging activity that young patients approach with enthusiasm.
