WeWatch

The Project

WeWatch was born from the idea of transforming the cinema experience into a social and shared moment. The goal was to create a mobile app that would allow movie enthusiasts to find company to go to the cinema, overcoming the difficulty of organizing outings or the loneliness of going to the theater alone.

The client tasked us with developing a complete mobile platform that combined cinema event creation with matching and chat features, integrating monetization systems through monthly subscriptions and event boosts.

The Challenge

The complexity of the project lay in integrating multiple advanced features into a single fluid and intuitive user experience. We had to manage real-time geolocation for proximity matching, implement an event system with multiple participation, ensure security through identity verification, and integrate in-app payment systems for subscriptions and premium features.

Another important challenge was integration with external APIs to retrieve updated information about movies showing in theaters, synchronizing this data with user-created events.

The Solution

We designed and developed WeWatch as a hybrid mobile app for iOS and Android using React Native and Expo, ensuring a native experience on both platforms with a single codebase.

The app architecture integrates the following key features:

• Complete authentication system with traditional and social login for quick and secure access
• Event creation and management linked to movies currently showing, with join system and interested list
• Geographic matching based on user location to find company nearby
• Group chat for each event and private chat between matched users
• Identity verification via document to increase security and trust among users
• Push notification system for updates on events, new matches and messages
• Movie API integration to display updated cinema schedules
• In-app purchases for monthly subscriptions and event boosts for greater visibility
• Multi-language support to reach an international audience

The backend developed in PHP with MySQL database ensures high performance in managing users, events, chats and real-time geolocation.

Results

WeWatch reached over 200 downloads in the first week after publication on the stores, demonstrating public interest in this type of social experience related to cinema.

The app has created an active community of movie enthusiasts who use the event and matching features daily to organize shared outings. The identity verification system has helped create a safe and reliable environment, a fundamental element for apps that facilitate meetings between people.

The monetization model based on subscriptions and event boosts proved effective, allowing the client to build a sustainable business around the platform.
