Foodja
Mobile app for ordering food and drinks directly from smartphone, with geolocation, customizable menus and real-time notifications.
The project
Innovation Group, a food and beverage operator, commissioned us to develop the frontend of Foodja, a mobile application designed to digitize the food and beverage ordering process. The goal was to offer end users a smooth and intuitive experience, allowing them to order products directly from their smartphone and pick them up as takeaway, reducing waiting times and optimizing store workflows.
The client already had a structured backend and infrastructure for monitoring connected devices. Our responsibility focused on creating a modern, high-performance user interface compatible with iOS and Android, capable of effectively communicating with existing systems.
The challenge
The main challenge of the Foodja project was designing a frontend that guaranteed maximum usability and responsiveness while interfacing with third-party backends and devices. We needed to ensure a consistent experience across both mobile platforms, manage geolocation to display the nearest stores, allow order customization through add-ons, and guarantee timely delivery of push notifications.
Additionally, the app needed to support multiple languages to adapt to an international audience, and the authentication system had to be simple yet secure, based on phone numbers rather than traditional credentials.
The solution
We built Foodja's frontend using React Native and Expo, ensuring shared code between iOS and Android and drastically reducing development and maintenance time. The chosen architecture allowed us to focus on user experience, creating consistent and high-performance graphical interfaces.
The main features implemented include:
- Phone number login: simplified and secure authentication, without the need for complex registration;
- Geolocation: automatic detection of stores closest to the user;
- Interactive menu with add-ons: display of available products with customization options through ingredients or additional features;
- Order management: submission and tracking of orders directly from the app, with real-time confirmations;
- User profile: personal area to manage data, order history and preferences;
- Push notifications: immediate updates on order status and promotional communications;
- Multi-language support: interface available in multiple languages to reach a diverse audience.
Technologies
For Foodja's frontend development, we chose React Native, a JavaScript framework for creating native cross-platform mobile applications, combined with Expo, a toolchain that simplifies project management, testing on real devices, and update deployment. This combination allowed us to accelerate development without compromising code quality or app performance.
Results
Foodja's frontend enabled Innovation Group to launch a complete, intuitive mobile application ready for iOS and Android on the market. The implemented interface improved end users' shopping experience, making the ordering process fast and immediate. Integration with geolocation and the push notification system increased user engagement, while multi-language support opened up possibilities for expansion into international markets.
Thanks to the use of React Native and Expo, Innovation Group benefits from easily maintainable and scalable code, reducing long-term management costs. The app now represents a strategic tool for optimizing operational workflows and building customer loyalty.
